It felt like a fairly uneventful week in Europe. Over the last 5 days, the FTSE finished up pretty much unchanged, as has the Dax. Only the CAC in France really made any gains, notching up a 1.02% move up.
US stocks staked out a record high on Thursday, with the S&P 500 index surpassing a previous peak reached seven weeks ago as strong corporate earnings bolstered the mood on Wall Street. The US blue-chip S&P closed up 0.3 per cent, led by stocks such as Microsoft, Tesla, Netflix and Amazon. The stock price of electric vehicle maker Tesla rose to a record high after beating earnings late on Wednesday.
Thursday marked the seventh consecutive day of gains for the index, the longest winning streak since June 2021. The S&P 500 ended the longest period without a new record since November 2020. The technology-focused Nasdaq Composite added 0.6 per cent.
In Europe, the Stoxx 600 index ended the session flat, remaining just over 1 per cent below its August high. In Asia it was a similar story with the Shanghai Index and the Nikkei both moving very little all week.
With such little movement, many of our strategies didn’t gain a huge amount of ground, although Cambridge Futures did manage to outperform with a solid 2.1% return. Given the strength in the US it is probably unsurprising that this week’s top team comes from across the pond. Not only did they outperform everyone else, but they did it in style.
The American Research House managed to increase their portfolio by a whopping 10.5%. All their autotraders have had a fantastic week, and there are quite a number of them, so well done to them.
